Okay, I asked my now older children (10 and 13) what was their favorite story that I read to them when they were younger and hands down, no thought needed, Lisa McCourt & Cyd Moore’s I Love You, Stinky Face was their answer.
I’m trying to remember how we had stumbled across this sweet story. I honestly don’t think I would have chosen it from the racks and racks of books at the book store. I really think I picked it up at a yard sale….and I’m so glad we did. So I’ll encourage you to pick it up for either yourself, if you have children that you read to, or as a gift to someone who does–attention all Grandmas and Aunts.
It is a charming story of a little boy with a big imagination quizzing his mom with “what if” questions. What if I were a big, scary ape? Would you still love me then? Mom always gives a great mom response and the boy goes on with “But, Mama, but Mama” and the next question comes. After reading the book a few times, I would always pause and let the kids say in anticipation, “But, Mama, but Mama” and onto the next wild and crazy reason.
